There is no denying that a well-insulated house is a comfortable house. Although the thermostat will keep the overall house at whatever temperature level you have chosen, a house that is well-insulated will be more consistent in the distribution of warmth. There will be no drafts. When exterior walls are well-insulated, you as a homeowner will not feel cold on the back of your neck when you sit near an outside wall. The house will have a more even distribution of heat, with less cold zones. Our customers often tell us that after we’ve insulated their upper level, the temperature feels more consistent when moving from floor to floor. When a basement is insulated to recommended levels (R-24) what was once just storage/utility space can be reclaimed as comfortable living space.
Not to be forgotten is that a well-insulated house will be easier to keep cool in the summer. In particular, the top floor of a 1-1/2 or 2-1/2 storey house will become considerably cooler in the summer once all the walls, ceilings, and slopes are properly insulated.
